feminist theatre.

F-Bomb Theatre is a feminist theatre company based in Scotland.

We kicked off in 2021, as a group of university students frustrated the lack of interesting roles for women. The protagonists’ girlfriend, wife, mother… YAWN.

We decided to form F-Bomb – a theatre company that gives women a platform to create work they can take pride in. Our mission has since evolved to celebrate and support women and people of marginalised genders in theatre and beyond. We are a trans and non-binary inclusive space.

our initiatives.

We aim to break down gender-based barriers, and amplify the voices of underrepresented individuals. Aside from our productions, we’ve launched community-focused initiatives designed to support women and people of marginalised genders as they navigate an industry that has historically been male-dominated.

These have included our International Women’s Day Showcases, which provide emerging female writers with dramaturgical support and a platform to share their work to audiences and the industry.

We originated the FemiFringe movement, a vibrant community that celebrates the work led by women and individuals of marginalised genders at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The F-Bomb Theatre FemiFringe Guide lists the shows at the Fringe that are created by women, trans, or non-binary people. In August 2023, we distributed 2000 free print copies of our FemiFringe Guide (printed on carbon-neutral, recycled paper).

our productions.

Our acclaimed debut production at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2021 was AFTERPARTY, a new comedy-drama exploring the realities of opportunity for teenage girls from deprived backgrounds.

We followed this up with THE BEATLES WERE A BOYBAND, an urgent and unapologetically feminine response to male violence and misogyny. Premiering at Fringe 2022, it won a prestigious The Scotsman Fringe First Award and the Sit-Up Award for social impact. We also returned this show to EdFringe 2023.

As for our next show… we’ve got plenty up our sleeves. We’ll see where the funding takes us 😉 (Yes, we’re currently not regularly funded and do most of our activities either on a shoestring budget or voluntarily!)
